A police officer from Koromotangi village in Kakamega County committed suicide over alleged salary delay.

Reports indicate that the officer identified as Abel Kemboi was on Wednesday, January 5, found dead after complaining to friends and relatives that his December salary had been delayed.

The officer had further said that he would take up the salary issue with his bosses at Kakamega Police Station and even requested his cousin identified as Zacheaus Kalama to accompany him.

“We had agreed to go to the station to inquire the cause of the salary delay from his bosses but it was shocking that he took his own life even before we achieved our mission,” Kalama said.

Kalama said that he woke up the following morning and headed to Abel’s home but found the door locked from inside.

Efforts to ask him to open the door ended in vain, so he opted to break into the house and that’s when he found Abel lifeless. He had committed suicide.

“He had hanged himself and I did not believe what I saw,” Kalama said revealing that his cousin had however shown signs of being stressed in the recent past.

This was echoed by Kakamega Central OCPD David Kabena who said that the late was always stressed.

He said that they had already launched investigations to ascertain the exact cause of his death.

The body of the deceased was taken to Kakamega Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue awaiting postmortem.
