An announcement of a three-week lockdown for two districts, just like the covid lockdown, the districts have seen closure of places of entertainment, churches, social places of meet up and entertainment joints in districts of Mubende. They will face closure and a few curfews be put into place following the outbreak of Ebola in Uganda.
The outbreak has seen 19 fatalities with 64 infections, and as a means to curb the deadly virus, this Saturday, the president of uganda put a 21-day ban on all travel to and from the regions of Mubende and Kassanda.
Mubende, which is 80 kilometers (50 miles) from Kampala, the country’s capital, was the epicenter of the outbreak when it started in early September.
Lockdowns were earlier rejected by President Museveni on the grounds that Ebola was not an airborne virus and hence did not call for the same precautions as of Covid-19.
In this epidemic, a 24-year-old man from Mubende was the first fatality to be reported. His family lost six further members.
Anyone suspected of possessing the virus who refused to isolate had previously been told by the president that they would be arrested.
He has also prohibited traditional healers from taking on cases. In earlier epidemics, the virus’s hotspots of propagation were often associated with healers.
An ongoing case of the Sudan ebolavirus, which causes Ebola, has been identified as the 2022 Uganda Ebola outbreak in Uganda’s Western Region and Central Region. The Sudan ebolavirus has caused five outbreaks in Uganda. The Ugandan Ministry of Health labeled the infections an outbreak on September 20, 2022.
