A 49-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman are being held at the Kerugoya Police Station in Kirinyaga County after they were arrested for allegedly committing fraud by impersonating an investigations officer.

According to the head of Kirinyaga Central Investigation Department Peter Ochieng, the duo were arrested by officers attached to the Kerugoya Police Station on Friday morning after a long term public outcry .

According to Ochieng, the two, Daniel Maina James and Mercy Muthoni are believed to have been colluding to defraud innocent members of the public their hard-earned money by purporting to be in a position to help them get employed in various public organizations as well as help them secure land.

Prior to their arrest, the suspects are said to have barred the officers from accessing their house but through the landlord’s intervention the officers were able to gain access where they not only arrested the suspects but also recovered numerous items believed to have been used in carrying out the dubious activity.

Among the items recovered were scanned education documents, application letters, Identity cards, P3 forms, good conduct certificates and three phones.
