Speaker Muturi Changes Tune Says He Cannot Join DP Ruto Ahead Of August Polls

Published:

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has addressed those urging him to join the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party led by Deputy President William Ruto.

Speaking on Thursday, January 20, Muturi said he has been approached severally by some leaders to join UDA, a move he said he can not make.

“I have been approached severally by some leaders to join the former PDR party, now UDA claiming that it’s a national party,” Muturi said.

The Speaker further recalled the formation of the rulling Jubilee Party when political parties were folded and merged.

“Before 2017 general elections we merged all our parties to form a national party, Jubilee. You ditched the party and established your own party to compete with the president who is the party leader,” Muturi said.

Muturi further defended his political stand stating that the vote-rich Mt Kenya region can also produce a president ahead of the August 9 General Election.

“People think that Mt Kenya can only produce a running mate. Kwanini tunajidharau hivi? Ati sisi kazi yetu ni kuenda kulamba lamba watu wengine huko ati sasa tunataka kukuwa namba mbili,” he said.

The Speaker said that Mt Kenya has produced leaders whose contribution to the development of Kenya is unmatched, adding that the vote region can also produce a Presidential candidate.

Muturi who will be running for the country’s top seat defended Mt Kenya saying the region has so far produced three Presidents.
