Singer Sanaipei Tande Recounts How She Lost Shows Because Of Promoters Demanding To Chew Her

Published:

Singer Sanaipei Tande aka Sana is pained by the fact that some Kenyan music promoters demanded for sex from her in exchange for shows.

However, the Mfalme Wa Mapenzi hitmaker says she did put her foot down and resisted any attempt to succumb to such demands, a thing that made her lose out on numerous shows and obviously, the money.

“I have lost shows because a promoter tells you he wants you to go to Naivasha to perform and we agree and there’s MPesa, so you can send me my deposit, but they want it to be a thing of why don’t we meet…have a drink.

We’ll be in Nairobi this weekend…we can do something (sic),” she said during an interview with a local radio station yesterday.

Sana, who has also starred in several local TV shows such as Kina, Aziza, Varshita and Auntie Boss, added that a lot of female artistes have in the past opened up to her about their experiences as victims of sexual harassment by players in the music industry.

She said, “There’s a casualness in the industry that I could not deal with. A lot of girls would tell me ‘If you want a deejay to play your song, you have to do a little something with him’.
