More celebrities are joining William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza camp to vie for political seats compared to Raila Odinga’s Azilio La Umoja camp.
Raila and Ruto are the leading contenders in the August 9th presidential race, it’s believed either of the two men will be Kenya’s fifth president.
A handful of celebrities who had been employed have resigned to join the two rival political camp ahead of the general election in August.
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) statutes stipulate that political aspirants holding state positions resign at least six months before the General Elections, which is February 10th.
IEBC requirement is in tandem with Media Council rules that require journalists vying for political seats to resign six months to the election date.
A handful of celebrities seeking electives seats have resigned recently in line with IEBC and Media Council rules.
Below is a list of celebrities who have joined Raila’s ODM (Azimio coalition in general) and those who have joined Ruto’s UDA (Kenya Kwanza coalition in general)
Jamal Gaddafi – resigned from KTN to vie for the Malindi parliamentary seat (ODM)
Felix Odiwour – resigned from Kiss FM to vie for Langata parliamentary seat (ODM)
Sabina Stadler – MCA seat Mugumoini ward (ODM)
Bonnie Musambi – resigned from KBC to vie for Kitui Central constituency (has been linked to Kalonzo’s Wiper party which is under OKA alliance that is said to incline towards Azimio)
Alex Mwakideu – to vie for a parliamentary seat in Taita Taveta county (Linked to Azimio)
Prezzo – Kasarani constituency (linked to Azimio)
Jaguar – Starehe constituency (UDA)
MC Jessy – Imenti South constituency (UDA)
DNG – Woodley/Kenyatta Golf Course MCA seat (UDA)
Mcdonald Mariga – Kibra constituency (UDA)
Karen Nyamu – Nairobi senator (UDA)
Gospel singer Loise Kim – Kiambu Women Representative (UDA)
Rufftone – Nairobi senator (UDA)
