Museveni: Curfew And Lockdown Reintroduced

Published:

The Ugandan government led by Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Saturday announced the implementation of an overnight curfew to reduce the spread of Ebola in the country.

He said that two districts would be locked for 21 days, and worshipping places and places of entertainment would also be closed. The two districts include Mubende and Kassandra, both in Central Uganda.

“Movements into and out of Mubende prohibited… if you are in Mubende, stay there now. Don’t move out of, and if you want to go to Mubende don’t move in to.” said Museveni.

“Movement from Kassanda to Mubende and vise versa is prohibited… but also within that area, Mubende Kassanda, Nobody should move from Mubende to Kassanda or Kassanda to Mubende.” added the Ugandan president.

A few weeks ago, the World Health Organization, WHO, declared an Ebola outbreak in Uganda. Ugandan Health Authorities also announced the outbreak of the disease, stating that the disease has claimed the lives of some people in the west of the capital city, Kampala.

Museveni said the only movement allowed is within the district but not out of the districts. He has also added that public and private transport are not permitted in Mubende and Kassande either during the day or the night.

“Public transport, private transport and bodabodas are not permitted to move in Mubende district, in Kassande district… no movement either by day or by night,” said the longest-serving president.

Ther Ugandan Head of State justified his statement by saying the bodaboda carry people from different places, encouraging disease spread.

“Why are we doing that? Because you are the ones who are collecting people and infecting them,” he justified.

Since the outbreak of the disease, 19 people have succumbed. This happened after the announcement of the hemorrhagic fever by the East African Nation on the 20th of Sept, 2022.
