Siaya County Governor Cornel Rasanga Amoth has pledged 80 hectares of county land for the expansion of Odera AKango’ University in Gem, Siaya.
Rasanga was speaking at the County Headquarters when he hosted Education Cabinet Secretary who is in an educational tour of the County.
Rasanga further appealed to Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. Magoha to work with his Lands counterpart to fast track the acquisition of Nyamninia KBC land to be given to Odera Akang’o University campus for expansion purposes.
The National Land Commission allocated the County Government of Siaya some 80 Hectares of the land and Kenya Broadcasting Corporation another 7 .5 Hectares for purposes of expansion of the Odera Akang’o University Campus but the necessary documentation to authenticate this process have since delayed.
“We are seeking the indulgence of the Ministry of Education to intervene with his Lands counterpart to hasten the process”, noted the Governor.
“We have continued to work with the National Government for continued expansion of tertiary education through initiating another partnership between JOOUST and ATC” added the Siaya Governor.
The Governor also noted the need to support the County Government of Siaya to scale up tertiary education through opening of more technical institutions in Mbeji and St. Julian within Siaya town for increased faculties and courses of tertiary education.

On his part, the Education Cabinet Secretary committed to spring into action to ensure all the deliverables are achieved during his stint at the helm of the Education sector in the country. He directed that documents be made available for his action with utmost immediacy.
Present during the briefing between the Governor and the Cabinet Secretary were the Siaya Deputy Governor Dr. James Okumbe, County Secretary Mr. Ogutu Joseph, County Executive for Governance Mr. Dismas Wakla among other top officials from the National Government Ministry of Education.
