Olympic champion dennis ombachi opens up on mental health struggles.

As an olympic star, Dennis Ombachi is currently using his profile to advocate and offer support to people struggling with mental health issues coming out as a bipolar.

“I keep telling people , its just like any other disease, like diabetes. Once you’re on your medication, life goes back to normal,” Dennis said.

The self taught chef twitted for the first time in 2021, that he was suffering from bipolar. He came out clear about 2017/18 season when he felt a little bit depressed and was at his lowest because of a leg injury but still he managed to come out strong.

“but for your mind to be able to get back to stage it used to be, it takes quite a while and it needs help. You need someone to talk to. You need someone to coach it, the way you coach your body,” ombachi came out.

Dennis Ombachi acknowledged to having self-harming episodes and suicidal thoughts during his career, just like any other athlete. He also suffered an injury during the 2017–2018 season. Ombachi claimed that he just had the mental health interview by pure luck.
Ombachi reminisced about how he once sneaked out of school as a form two student after being bullied and spent a whole week living on the streets.
After a search party went looking for him, he was eventually discovered taking a shower by the river.
