ODM’s Edwin Sifuna Declares Interest In Nairobi Senatorial Seat

Published:

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) secretary general Edwin Sifuna has declared his interest in the Nairobi senatorial seat in the upcoming 2022 general elections.

While making the announcement, the outspoken Secretary general noted that he is a dully registered voter at Loresho Primary School in Westlands Constituency and that he will be vying for an ODM ticket to succeed current Senator Johnson Sakaja come next year.

“I will henceforth vote at Loresho Primary School in Westlands Constituency and will be vying for the Nairobi County Senatorial seat in 2022 on an ODM party ticket,” Sifuna said.

Back in 2017, Sifuna vied for the Nairobi Senate seat but was defeated by Jubilee’s candidate Johnson Sakaja who is the current sitting senator.

Prior to going for the Senate seat, he had also been defeated in the Kanduyi constituency ODM primaries by lawyer John Makali who also eventually lost during the General Election to the then Ford Kenya candidate Wafula Wamunyinyi.

However, prior to today’s declaration, Sifuna had revealed he will not be vying for any elective seat come 2022 after consultations with his clan, family and close friends.

According to Sifuna he had decided to shelf his ambition and concentrate in supporting Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.

“After a wide consultation with my clan, family and close friends, I have decided to shelf my ambition and concentrate in supporting Raila Odinga’s presidential bid at the helm of the party,” he said.

Sifuna further revealed pressure has been mounting on him to vie for any elective seat in Bungoma county.

“You people have used your resources campaigning for me to go for either gubernatorial, senatorial or even Kanduyi parliamentary seat, but it is unfortunate that I won’t vie for any elective seat in 2022,” he said.
