Museveni Ends The House Detention Of Bobi Wine Following A Court Order

Published:

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has at last ordered his military to withdraw from the home of opposition Robert Kagulanyi aka Bobi Wine following days of house arrest since the country went to a general election on 14th of January.

The withdrawal comes amid a court order that was issued on Monday 25th January directing the government to let him free. However, on their side, the security officers argued that the detention of Bobi Wine was for his own good and protection.

Since election, Bobi Wine has been at loggerheads with the Museveni’s men. At some point, he was forced to cut short his interview with Kenya’s Hot96 FM following a raid on his Kampala home by the military personnel.

The Ugandan presidential candidate revealed to the radio station that the military was on the verge of breaking into his residence after assaulting his security details.

After the election, Bobi Wine had accused Museveni of vote rigging and maintained that he won the election.

“I am very confident that we defeated the dictator by far. I call upon all Ugandans to reject the blackmail. We have certainly won the election and we’ve won it by far.” He told the journalists few days after the election.

Further, there have been continuous pressure from foreign governments and international bodies to free the youthful presidential aspirant. According to these bodies, the Museveni led government was violating Bobi Wine’s right by keeping him under house arrest.
