Liverpool striker Divock Origi set to sign for Aston Villa

Published:

Aston Villa has been linked with Liverpool striker Divock Origi. According to the Sun, Villa are weighing up a move for the Belgian international to bolster Dean Smith’s options in attack.

Signing a new forward is thought to be a priority in the transfer window after Villa secured their Premier League safety.

Club-record arrival Wesley Moraes is still working his way back to full fitness while Mbwana Samatta and Keinan Davis struggled to make an impact during the relegation run-in.

Origi who is the son to former Kenyan International Mike Okoth,  made 44 appearances for Liverpool this season but the majority of those came as a substitute with the 25-year-old behind Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in Jurgen Klopp’s plans.

He scored vital goals for the Reds on the way to Champions League glory last year but is being tipped for an Anfield exit this summer to boost his international hopes.

But what do Liverpool fans think about Villa’s reported interest?

One supporter posted on social media: “Villa would be a great club for Origi, scores some huge goals but feel he should be playing first-team somewhere.”

“#lfc should not accept a deal less than £60m for Origi,” wrote another. “We’ve groomed him for long. Should also set a date beyond which sale will not be done. Aston Villa would be getting a quality striker who’s used to Premier League life and has prime years ahead. £60m good deal for both.”

A third claimed: “Origi is doing Villa a favour if he decides to go there. The brilliance of our front three has taken the spotlight from Origi.”

“Don’t sell Origi,” was the simple instruction shared by another fan.
