Leaders across the political divide have joined millions of football fans in the country in mourning ardent Harambee Stars and AFC Leopards fan Isaac Juma.
Juma was hacked to death by an unknown number of goons back at his home in Kakamega County.
Led by Deputy President William Ruto the leaders were saddened by the tragic news of the die-hard fan of Harambee Stars with many terming it senseless and disturbing news.
“We are heartbroken by the loss of the ever-present AFC Leopards and Harambee Star’s long-standing fan Isaac Juma. He was a friendly, ever jovial and passionate soccer supporter,” Ruto said.
“Our thoughts are with the family and soccer fraternity during this painful time. Rest In Peace, Juma.”
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party led by Raila Odinga urged relevant security agencies to work hand in hand and bring the culprit to book.
“We mourn the senseless killing of Isaac Juma Onyango, a renowned football fan and a strong supporter of our party leader @RailaOdinga on Tuesday night at his home in Mumias. We urged the relevant security agencies to move with speed to bring his killers to book,” a statement by ODM read.
Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya said he had learnt with profound shock and sadness of Juma.
“Juma was a devoted and entertaining football enthusiast who graced many sporting activities in the county and entire country,” he said.
Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala said he was saddened to have woken up to the news that soccer has lost one of its most loyal fans.
“He was a dominant figure in each of my annual Cleo Malalah Super Cup. On behalf of my family and the people of Kakamega, I express my heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. RIP Juma,” he said.
Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi remembered Juma as a football fan whose motivation and energy lit all the stadiums he visited.
“I am saddened by the death of our AFC Leopards Harambee Star’s ardent fan, Isaac Juma,” Mudavadi Tweeted.
“The late was an ever-present face on the terraces working up fans and his energy was a motivation to the boys in the pitch. May his family, friends and relatives find peace, as his soul RIP,”
Juma was a well-known figure in Kenyan football until his death, and his support for local teams, particularly Harambee Stars, AFC Leopard, and Home Boyz, was a thing of beauty.
