Ida, Rachel Step Up Vote Hunting For Raila, Ruto Ahead Of August Polls

Published:

Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga’s spouses addressed political rallies as the race to State House gathers momentum.

In a first of its kind in recent months, DP’s wife Rachel Ruto addressed a political gathering in Keringet, Nakuru County on Thursday, January 20.

On the other hand, Ida Odinga accompanied her husband to Kuria, Migori County where she addressed a roadside rally and urged the residents to support the ODM leader.

Before addressing residents of Kirenget, Rachel had earlier participated in women empowerment programs in the area.

“Providing women with the extension services, value addition and better access to markets for their product has the potential of robustly transforming their businesses and contribute to the nation attaining food security.

“Joyful Women Organization is working to help close gender disparities and realize the benefits of gender inclusion in the value chain,” the DP spouse said.

The appearance of the two in political rallies excited netizens, with some saying the move was a confirmation that it is a two-horse race between Raila and Ruto in the race to State House.

“If you are vying for president this year and your wife is still busy watching horror movies on Netflix and following episodes of Mexican telenovelas, then there’s a clear chance you are not a serious aspirant. Go full throttle or quit,” one Muka Fred wrote on Facebook.

Another Facebook user Gitau Kangethe wrote: “You are a very strong woman Mama Rachael. Continue supporting and praying for Kenya and particularly, the chief hustler.”
