The person suspected of killing Ida Odinga’s bodyguard Barrack Otieno on Thursday, October 13 has been detained by police in Eldoret.
The man Identified as, Collins Oulo Okundi, is reported to have gone hiding after killing Ida Odinga’s bodyguard Barrack Onyango and hurting his female companion flying the scene armed with a gun.
Okundi was arrested on Sunday, and, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Eldoret branch, a Jericho handgun, one magazine, and seven rounds of ammunition were found on him. Thegun hews fund with is believed to be the murder weapon.
“He’s still being detained in Eldoret but eventually he will be brought to Kisumu,” Nyanza regional police boss,Karanja Muiruiru said.
The dead cop was allegedly accompanied by a woman and a male companion when Okundi challenged him; both of them were shot during the altercation. On that fatal night, Mama Ida’s designated bodyguard, Barack Onyango Oduor, passed away instantly.
Oduor was shot three times—twice in the head and once in the leg—by the suspect, a manager of a well-known nightclub in Kisumu, during the ensuing brawl. Police Constable Oduor passed away there and then, and his body was transferred to Kisumu’s Star Hospital morgue.
Along with Oduor and Marion, Donar Kajwang also was shot during the incident and suffered a leg wound.
The suspect allegedly fled with Oduor’s gun, according to a report written up at the Obunga Police Station.
Ida Odinga, Raila Odinga’s wife and the leader of Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya, was not present in Kisumu at the time of the incident.
In Riat, the Odinga family resides.
At the shooting scene, the police discovered a spent cartridge and a bullet head. Circumstances surrounding Ida Odinga’s bodyguard shooting are now clear and police are following up now that the suspected killer is under police custody awaiting for more intervention.
