Former Nairobi governor Evans Odhiambo Kidero has blamed Raila’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party for denying him a chance to participate in the looming primaries.
This comes in the wake of the ODM party handing over a direct ticket to Gladys Wanga, a dictatorial move which did not go well with Kidero.
According to the former Nairobi governor, Raila Odinga denied the people of Homabay an opportunity to elect the person they wanted. As a result, Kidero made it clear that he will not go down like that and will soon give a direction on his next move.
Below was Kidero’s full statement after ODM handed over the ticket to Gladys Wanga:
“Homa Bay people have been once again denied an opportunity to choose their preferred ODM Party candidate for gubernatorial seat for the August 9th 2022 general elections.
This is unfortunate because Homa Bay paid a price when Dr. Odhiambo Mbai, who was the chairman of Devolution Committee at the National Constitutional Review Committee sitting at Bomas, was murdered in cold blood by those who opposed Constitutional change. We deserve better.
As a son and a registered voter in Homa Bay County I will pursue alternative avenues to offer the voters yet another opportunity to elect a leader of their choice on August 9th 2022.
The seven people who met in a hotel in Nairobi cannot decide for the over one million residents of Homa Bay County. Their intentions are well known. I was neither informed nor invited to this meeting where the sovereign powers of Homa Bay voters were undermined.
We should have been left to proceed to the nominations on April 14th 2022 as was scheduled.
Here the voters would have spoken through democratically recognised means – ballot.
My focus is to see Homa Bay County progress from its current status to a level where the residents can enjoy the fruits of devolution.
I urge the people of Homa Bay to maintain peace and harmony. I will communicate further directions! Erokamano Jodalawa!???? #HomaBayManyien..#Inawezekana
