The deejaying fraternity is mourning the passing on of one of their own Alex Murimi aka DJ Lithium.
The mix master, 34, who until his death was working as a deejay and producer at Capital FM, was reported dead on Wednesday night.
Unconfirmed initial reports indicated that Lithium died after ingesting poison while at the office located on Lonrho House in Nairobi.
However, the station’s management said he died at the Nairobi Hospital where he was rushed on emergency after collapsing in the office.
“Alex was a great addition to the larger Capital FM team, encompassing great talent as a DJ, producer and possessed an interesting ‘right wing’ sense of humour,” said the radio’s programmes director Danny Munyi.
DJ Double Trouble termed Lithium’s death as a blow to the entire entertainment industry.
“Personally, I used to listen to the versatile DJ Lithium on Friday for the love of R&B, hip-hop, EDM and Afro-house. All I can say is this has come as a big shock to me and our entertainment industry.
May his soul rest in peace,” he told Spice yesterday, adding that if indeed Lithium died from stress-related issues, the industry players must be each other’s keepers for depression among the creatives is real.
On his side, DJ Creme De La Crème also expressed his shock following Lithium’s demise.
“I can’t even find the words, but if the rumours going around are true, we need an honest, candid and safe space where people can talk about matters of mental health because everyone out here is fighting a battle. My prayers go to his family; God’s peace and grace,” he said.
