Customers stranded as Tusky’s Kisumu shut it doors

Published:

Troubled retailer Tuskys Supermarket suffered another blow after auctioneers locked its doors at the Kisumu branch.

Citizen Digital was the first to report that shoppers at the supermarket located at the United Mall on the Kisumu-Kakamega highway were caught unawares during the Thursday incident.

Auctioneers from Victoria Blue Services descended on the retail chain locking all three entrances.

Sources indicate that they were acting on behalf of the landlord who demanded Ksh.26million in rent arrears.

Tuskys Supermarket is said to have been owing the landlord accrued rent of Ksh.32million but had so far only settled Ksh.6million.

In a notice seen by Radio Ramogi, the auctioneer has attached the property worth equivalent of the owed arrears.

It is set to auction the property in the next eight days if the Tuskys management will not have settled the debt.

On Thursday, the auctioneers also towed a lorry canter belonging to Tuskys supermarket.

The supermarket had also leased out several spaces within the building to individual businesses including chemists all which have been shut down as they were reportedly paying rent directly to the management.

Mr. Wilson Kanyi, the supermarket’s United Mall branch manager, declined to comment on the matter and instead referred journalists to the Nairobi office.
