Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has shown dissatisfaction after Suna East counterpart Junet Mohamed allegedly snubbed him during Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja event on Friday.
Babu accused Junet of intentionally failing to recognize him as one of the members of parliament present at the rally, given he is a key supporter of the former premier.
At the Azimio la Umoja event, the Suna East legislator who was the compere took the opportunity to welcome senators and other dignitaries present but skipped Babu despite the outspoken legislator efforts to be recognised by Junet.
Junet would go on to tell Babu to sit down since he had seen him.
However, during the introduction of the leaders present, Babu supporters chanted his name, demanding their leader be recognised but unfortunately fell on deaf ears.
This did not sit well with the youthful legislator, who instead said while reacting to the incident noted that though Junet refused to acknowledge his presence, “God introduced him” to his supporters.
“MP Junet in his wisdom or lack of the same refused to introduce me today, but God introduced me,” Babu said.
The ODM party is yet to release a statement on the said incident, with Junet also remaining tight-lipped about the allegations by Babu.
During the Azimio la Umoja event, Raila officially announced that he will be vying for the presidency in the 2022 general elections.
Raila, 76, made the much-awaited announcement at Kasarani Stadium on Friday, December 10.
In his declaration speech, Raila also said he will use the Azimio la Umoja Movement as his political vehicle come 2022.
Raila further said he will prioritise unity agenda, teachers’ welfare, national healthcare, employment and economic recovery.
The former premier’s declaration means that he will be making the fifth attempt at the top job, where he is expected to face off with Deputy President William Ruto.
