Ruto makes a Huge U -Turn On His Hustler Funds Promise

Published:

President William Ruto is on the verge of fulfilling the hustler fund promise he made to Kenyans during his campaigns.

While at a church service in Kericho on Sunday, Ruto said that the hustler fund would be ready by December 1. He said the fund would be available on interest and shall be given as loans, not grants. Ruto told the citizens that the hustler fund would be issued on interest and not for free.

“On December 1 we will launch the Hustler Fund and so it is up to you now to organise yourselves into Chamas, SACCOs, cooperatives or individually. It is not free money, it is business money that you will repay. We will eliminate shylocks and repayment will be at less than a 10% interest,” said the Head of State.

The commander-in-chief urged the youths to register in SACCOS and cooperatives to enable them to have access to the hustler fund.

“Lakini si pesa ya bure. Ati unangojea pesa ya serikali ya bure? Hiyo hakuna. Hii ni pesa ya kufanya biashara. Na tutafanya biashara na urudishe pesa.” said Ruto.

However, this is a great contrast from what the president had earlier on promised during his campaigns. On June 11, 2022, Ruto promised Kenyans to put 50 billion, government money as part of the hustler fund. He said the 50 billion would be given to business people at no interest rate.

“Na hiyo hustler fund, tutaweka pesa ya serikali shilingi bilioni hamsini. Na hiyo bilioni 50, tutawapatia wafanyibiashara kama wewe bila interest, without interest.” said Ruto during his presidential campaigns.

The president also promised Kenyans that those who have been blacklisted because of mobile phone loans would be free in a fortnight.

“Give me two weeks, those blacklisted because of debts will be free. But you must work hard there is nothing for free. And if you try to steal government money we will see,” said the president.

Is this what Kenyans expected of the hustler fund?
