Women Inside Ruto’s Cabinet

President William Ruto is on the verge of fulfilling his promises to the women of Kenya, as said during his campaigns. Ruto promised to implement the two-third gender rule if elected the fifth president of Kenya under the Kenya Kwanza Coalition.
“I William Samoei Ruto on behalf of Kenya Kwanza Alliance, do hereby commit to actualize the two-third gender principle…” said Ruto during his campaigns.
Speaking on Tuesday during the unveiling of his cabinet, the president appointed seven females to be part of his cabinet.
“I commit on behalf of Kenya Kwanza Alliance that we shall allocate 50% off all cabinet positions to the women of Kenya.” Said Ruto during a meeting at the Kenya Kwanza Women Consultative program held on 10th June 2022.
Of the seven appointees by the president, the 50% allocation to women was not met. The seven women appointed to make up 32% of the appointment, which is different from his promise.
However, the appointment has met the two-third gender rule requirement as he had promised.
The seven females appointed include: former Malindi Member of parliament Aisha Jumwa, CS Public Service Gender and Affirmative Action, Corporate Executive Rebecca Miano to be in charge of the East African community, Arid and Semi-arid Lands and Regional Development Ministries, Penninah Mulonza whos was once the deputy governor of Kitui County as CS in the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage, Florence Bore as the CS Labour and Socia Protection, Kandara Member of Parliament Alice Wahome in the Water and Sanitation Ministry, Soipan Tuya recently nominated to the senate for the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and Susan Nakumicha Wafula who lost in the Women Representative seat in Transnzoia County as the CS Health.
