Why Wema Sepetu Has Herself To Blame For Her Infertility Problems

Published:

Wema Sepetu has been trying to get pregnant for many years without success, at some point she vowed to get rid of her womb altogether out of frustration.

Sepetu’s inability to have her own child stem from two abortions she procured years ago. In late January 2020, Sepetu came clean why she is struggling to have her own baby.

Speaking on her cooking show, she confessed to having procured two abortions which she said is the root cause of her problems.

The Tanzanian actress said she got pregnant twice for her late boyfriend Steven Kanumba and twice she aborted the pregnancies.

The first abortion was an agreement between Wema and Kanumba but the second one she did it secretly without telling her late boyfriend.

Sepetu explained that she procured the abortions because she was still very young at the time and was not ready to be a mother yet.

The Bongo movies actress was speaking on her cooking show with Kanumba’s mother Frida Mtegoa. She told Kanumba’s mom that her late son cursed her after she procured the two abortions.

Wema said that before Kanumba’s death, he used to tell her that she would not be able to have children with any other man because she aborted his unborn babies.

“Wewe mwanamke nakudai, nakudai watoto wangu wewe, hutoweza kuja kupata mtoto na mwanaume mwingine yeyote yule,” Wema quoted what Kanumba used to tell her.

While Wema believes Kanumba’s curse is what is preventing her from having her own child, there is a scientific explanation to that.

Having an abortion will not usually affect one’s chances of becoming pregnant and having normal pregnancies in the future. But there’s a risk to one’s fertility and future pregnancies if one develops womb infection during the abortion procedure that’s not treated promptly.

Women who procure abortions are at higher risk for subsequent fertility issues, including miscarriage.  Abortion can cause scarring of the uterine wall. This may make it more difficult to get pregnant again or cause miscarriage.

A miscarriage is the loss of a baby before the 20th week of pregnancy. It’s not as if Wema Sepetu can’t get pregnant, she does but she always suffers miscarriages.

In February 2016, Sepetu lost her unborn twins after suffering a miscarriage. She was dating Idris Sultan at the time.

She lost the twins who were only 13 weeks old. She broke up with the Big Brother Africa 2014 winner shortly after suffering the miscarriage.

In 2018, Wema Sepetu once again suffered a miscarriage. It was thought that Diamond Platnumz was the one who had knocked her up but she later confirmed she wasn’t impregnated by the singer.

Wema’s previous abortions have something to do with her current predicament. If it’s because of the abortions she procured that she can’t have her own child, then the Miss Tanzania 2006 has herself to blame.
