Obinna beat competition from fellow comedians Dr. Ofweneke, Tumbili and Owago Onyiro to be picked to replace Jalang’o on Kiss FM.
Jalang’o quit Kiss FM in February to contest for Langata parliamentary seat in the forthcoming August 9th general election.
The vacancy left by Jalang’o was fiercely contested by comedians who were seeking to fill his shoes at Kiss FM.
Obinna however emerged as the victor and he ultimately started working at Kiss FM on Monday March 7th 2022.
But did Obinna win his job by pure merit or was he actually seconded by Jalang’o to replace him at Kiss FM?
A while back, during the recruitment process, Jalang’o ‘exposed’ his friend Obinna for bribing him to get the co-host radio presenter job at Kiss FM.
In a video on his YouTube channel, Jalang’o said Obinna had been following him everywhere for a week and even gave him Ksh50,000 for his campaign and other goodies for his children.
“In the past one week, Obinna has just been following me everywhere, lunch, dinner he comes to my house with a lot of things that I have never seen before. The other day he came with juice and shopping for my wife, the other previous day he came with a bicycle for my daughter,” Jalang’o said.
Jalang’o said that Obinna had even given him money so he could push for the slot for him. Obinna is heard telling Jalas to call the management and ask them to call him.
“Obinna listen, where I come from we do not like giving bribes, so they will call you when the time comes. Why are you worried?” Jalang’o asked Obinna.
To which he replied;
“I beat all of them thoroughly. I know and there is self-confidence. I have been sleeping at Kiss FM’S parking lot waiting for them to call me. I know I deserve the job.”
Jalang’o then asked Obinna what he would bring on board once hired by Kiss FM. And his response was…
“I am bringing Obinna and Kamene is safe. I have been fired twice from my previous radio job. They were shutting down. I was called while traveling from Kisumu. We were asked to gather at the boardroom and we were given termination letters. I have done late-night shows, mid-morning, drive but I have never done breakfast show. I don’t sleep. I am not coming to replace You, I am coming with my own shoe.”
Jalang’o noted that Obinna came with money to bribe him in the name of campaigns.
“He came here with 50k telling me it is for the campaign. Only to realize he is bribing me to talk to my boss. That is uncouth,” said Jalang’o.
“I didn’t have money then but now I have it. Please use that to buy reflector jackets,” Obinna responded to Jalang’o.
In the end of it all, Obinna emerged as the winner as he got the Kiss FM job. Did Jalang’o has a hand in his appointment, or it was pure merit? You be the judge of that.
