Radio personality Njambi Koikai has announced her intention to vie for the Dagoretti South Parliamentary seat in the August 9 General Election.
Born and bred in Dagoretti, Koikai says she has first-hand experience with the constituency’s harsh living conditions and, as a result, has developed a natural sense of community and service.
“Growing up in Dagoretti, I experienced the harsh living conditions in our community due to lack of resources. The spirit of community and service to others was instilled in me at an early age because we had to take care of each other as family, neighbours and friends,” wrote Njambi in a lengthy Instagram post-Monday.
According to the famous reggae show’s host, lack of proper healthcare, inadequate security, and basic amenities are among Dagoretti South’s challenges.
“We have faced numerous challenges as a community due to lack of proper healthcare, inadequate security and basic amenities. People in Dagoretti South aspire to live a better life for themselves and their children,” she said.
She went on to say that she wants to improve the people of Dagoretti South’s social and economic situation.
“Living in this community has shaped my values and the direction of my life. This has encouraged me to work for my community to improve the social and economic status of our people by working together,” she added.
Koikai plans to run as an independent candidate for the Dagoretti South Parliamentary seat.
She will go up against current Member of Parliament John Kiarie who is a close Allie of Deputy President William Ruto.
