George Natembeya has promised residents of Trans-Nzoia that he will not ban the brewing of Changa’a once elected governor in the August polls
The former Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya, that he will create a conducive environment for investors who want to set up alcohol companies in the county once he assumes office.
While addressing thousands of residents at Kenyatta stadium during the launch of his gubernatorial bid, Natembeya said operations on illegal liquor does not have any value.
“We, together with the police officers and chiefs have been pouring chang’aa in our villages, and we have never achieved anything through that. I wouldn’t continue doing the same thing and expecting different results. I have now left the camp of pouring alcohol,” Natembeya said.
However, Natembeya said he will set aside some funds for women empowerment as soon as he assumes office.
He said anybody who intends to engage in the liquor manufacturing business must have at least a Bachelor’s degree in BioChemistry which the majority of women in the villages don’t have.
“For you to manufacture alcohol, you must have a degree in BioChemistry which I know our women don’t have. Therefore, I will invite investors to put up industries that will focus on alcohol manufacturing that can be packaged and sold in our supermarkets,” he said.
