Mike Sonko Reveals How He Almost Committed Suicide At City Hall During His Tenure As Governor

Published:

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has now revealed how he almost took his own life because of work-related stress.

While reacting to the death of Capital FM Deejay Alex Nderi, alias DJ Lithium, Governor Sonko revealed that at one time at City Hall, he almost opted for suicide.

Sonko says his troubles with Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) were ignited by close friends who told him to take on NMS boss General Mohammed Badi head-on.

He said the two allies told him to sabotage NMS activities only for the same friends to go to a senior man, who is apparently president Uhuru Kenyatta, and report his plans to sabotage NMS.

It is then that plans to impeach Sonko took off and the former Governor says he was mentally stressed that he almost took his life.

“There was a time I almost commit suicide at city Hall after realising my close friends at the county assembly and one from EALA incited and advised me kuanza vita na beste yangu fulani after realising kuna Jeshi aliletwa kurun NMS na walipoona pesa mingi aneenda nayo uko,” Sonko said.

The Governor also raised concerns about how men are their own enemies.

He said most of the times men would rather keep to themselves issues troubling them rather than share with friends because a majority of them are hypocrites.

“Aki sisi Wanaume at times we go through a lot of stress and depression and don’t open up to friends like how women discuss their issues with fellow women coz 90% of our own silent enemies are our own friends,” he said.

The Governor was reacting to the death of DJ Lithium who allegedly committed suicide by taking rat poison while at the Capital FM offices.
