Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has dismissed Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s presidency claiming that his candidacy is likely to take the Kamba community to the opposition after.
Speaking a day after Kalonzo launched his bid to succeed President Uhuru in the August elections, Ngilu claimed that the presidential race is between two horses – ODM leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto – and the Wiper boss not stand a chance of winning the elections.
According to Ngilu, Kalonzo is aware of the country’s political scenes but he is being cheated by some of his party members who are only out to benefit from his candidacy.
“Unfortunately, Kalonzo is being pushed by some fake loyalists within Wiper who what win the elections and his expense without caring what will to the community after the elections,” the governor said.
“The Kamba community will vote wisely in the August Elections. We cannot afford to be taken to the opposition for the third time. Kalonzo should therefore tell us who he gets enough votes across the 47 counties to clinch the presidency,” she added.
The first-time governor noted that leadership is about acting in the best interest of those a leader serves and not a few selfish people.
“I am not opposed to Kalonzo’s presidency, but I am just being honest with him that it is simply about numbers and he can’t win an election on his own unless he builds a strong political coalition beyond the One Kenya Alliance (OKA,” she told a local publication.
Ngilu who was recently chosen as one of the leaders to head Raila Odinga’s presidential campaign board said that Wiper leaders urging Kalonzo to run for the top seat are setting him for failure.
According to her, Kalonzo cannot rely on the votes within the Ukambani region only to clinch the presidency.
Her statement comes after Kalonzo sought to mobilize his Ukambani political backyard to support his presidential bid in the coming elections.
