A man in Mwingi committed suicide in Mwingi town Kitui County after his motorbike was stolen.
The 23-year-old man who was also a hawker hanged himself in what locals blamed on overwhelming stress following the theft of his motorbike.
Nicholas Nzau had reportedly gone to work and left him with their four-month-old baby.
His wife Ruth Mwikali found the house closed from inside and when she tried to reach Nicholas on phone, her calls went unanswered.
She searched for him in places where she thought he could be found, but all was in vain.
It was then that she decided to break their house and found out that her husband had committed suicide while their child cried in bed.
“My husband’s motorbike was stolen a month ago, and he has been very stressed since then,” Mwikali narrated.
According to reports by the wife, Nzau bought the bike at Ksh140,000 to help him hawk jua kali items and he could not get to terms with how he had lost it.
The incident was reported at Mwingi Police station and the body of the deceased has since been moved by police to Mwingi Level IV hospital morgue.
