Orange Democratic Movement has thrown its former member and Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi into the cold after it declined to enter into a coalition agreement with his party Pamoja African Alliance (PAA).
This comes after Kingi announced that his party would support ODM leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid come 2022 but with a condition that ODM doesn’t field a candidate in Kilifi in the next year’s General Elections.
Kingi who spoke in Malindi town last week claimed that PAA had initiated coalition talks with ODM.
However, on Tuesday, ODM’s Kilifi County chairman Teddy Mwambire refuted Kingi’s claims noting that no electoral seat has been preserved for PAA as Kingi claimed.
Mwambire accused Kingi of trying to create confusion with his claims among ODM supporters. He also accused Kingi who left ODM of trying to find a way back into the party but with unrealistic conditions.
“He should join us and campaign for Raila and do so without conditions,” Mwambire said.
Mwambire further claimed that it is ODM that has the capacity of solving the problems that Kilifi face like Kingi’s PAA.
“As a party, PAA lacks the political muscle and goodwill to tackle issues affecting residents of the Coast region,” the MP said.
“The things Kingi is saying right now are only confusing. What we know is that all our local issues will be taken care of in ODM. People are already isolating him. By next year, he will have lost his political charm after his term as governor ends,” he added.
ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna also dismissed Kingi’s claims that PAA is in talks with ODM for a possible coalition.
Sifuna accused Kingi of seeking political relevance ahead of his retirement come 2022.
“Kilifi is an ODM county and we will field candidates in all elective positions. Those talking of a party called PAA are ODM members who fear defeat in party primaries and have chickened out,” claimed Sifuna.
