Alfred Mutua Crowned Best Governor In Africa

Published:

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has been crowned as the best governor in the continent by a Nigerian-based media company, My Media Africa, that ranks African leaders based on various achievements in leadership.

The award recognizes leaders from 36 African countries that have done well in various categories including sports, arts, community development, agriculture, philanthropy, education, and governance.

The county chief was ranked as the best governor at the second edition of the Africa Illustration Awards 2021.

Mutua beat Oscar Mabuyane of Premier of Eastern Cape Province and Bushy Maape of Premier of North Western Province from South Africa to clinch the coveted award.

Mutua made it to the final list due to his impressive work in infrastructure, youth development, healthcare and recreational facilities among others.

The curators noted that Machakos People’s Park was clean, beautiful and free for the public due to efforts by the county governor.

However, the crowning did not go well with former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama who termed the occasion as shambolic.

“Alfred Mutua was yesterday voted “the best Governor” in Africa Illustrious Award (which has no website) in a shambolic backstreet event held in Lagos,” Muthama said.

Muthama further said that the award given to Mutua was like a film made in Nigeria, given that most hospitals in Machakos county lack the required medication and in poor state.

“Most hospitals in Machakos County don’t have drugs, garbage is uncollected, medical staff are always paid late and vehicles are in scrapyards due to lack of maintenance. This is a film made in Nigeria,” Muthama said.
