Maragua Member of Parliament Mary Wamaua who is allied to Deputy President William Ruto caused a scene at Raila Odinga’s National Azimio la Umoja event at Kasarani Stadium on Friday, December 10.
The legislator from Murang’a County accused the security officers at the former premier’s event of mishandling her.
According to a video doing rounds on social media, platforms, Wamaua was irked after allegedly being roughed up by security officers at the VIP entrance of Kasarani Stadium.
In the video, the legislator is heard accusing the plain cloth security officers of shoving her away despite being an elected leader.
The unfolding angered the lawmaker, who stormed out of the venue in protest, as she questioned how the security detail will behave if Raila is elected president come 2022.
She accused the security detail of being disrespectful to her, given she was an elected leader.
“Na mkifika State House, itakuwa namna gani? Tunataka watu ambao wamenyenyekea. Mimi mjumbe amechaguliwa mnaniskuma kama viazi? Tutapatana kwenye debe (So how will the situation be when you get to State House? We want humble people. Why are you roughing me up, yet I am an elected leader? Let’s meet at the ballot),” she was heard saying as she stormed out of the stadia.
The DP Ruto allied politician was recently welcomed by the second in command to his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party after she had announced that she had ditched the ruling party in favour of Ruto’s party.
However, despite her allegations, the event at the Kasarani stadium went on where Raila is expected to declare his candidature ahead of 2022 in his much-awaited Azimio La Umoja mega meeting today at Kasarani stadium.
The ODM leader made a triumphant entry into the stadium for his national convention, flanked by family members and his close political confidants.
He made a lap of honour as he waved to his loyal supporters in the stadium that was full to the brim after his convoy made its way through the 60,000 capacity stadia.
