Former Kiambu governor William Kabogo yesterday dismissed the endorsement of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga by Mount Kenya Foundation.
In an interview with a Citizen TV, Kabogo said that the Mt. Kenya region electorate and leaders were not consulted, hence is yet to decide on the right presidential candidate to back for 2022 elections.
Kabogo further said the vote-rich region is still consulting with its leaders to support a presidential candidate who will fulfil the needs that are affecting its people.
However, Kabogo said he had bad blood against the former premiers presidential ambitions come 2022.
“The Mt. Kenya foundation had every right to make the decision of endorsing Raila, but the issues comes up when they purport to speak on behalf of the entire region without consulting the electorate given that they are still consulting,” Kabogo said.
His remarks come a day after the Mount Kenya Foundation endorsed Raila as its preferred presidential candidate in the upcoming 2022 polls.
The flamboyant leader further said the club of tycoons probably chose to endorse Odinga owing to their own personal expectations, which they expect him to deliver for should he clinch the presidency next year.
“If you look at those who were present with a close eye, you will see that they are businessmen from Mt. Kenya region, so they probably expect policies that would be reasonable for businessmen,” he said.
The tycoons from the vote-rich region also promised to support Raila financially in his quest to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Raila is expected to declare his candidature ahead of 2022 in his much-awaited Azimio La Umoja mega meeting today at Kasarani stadium.
The ODM leader made a triumphant entry into the stadium for his national convention flanked by family members and his close political confidants.
He made a lap of honour as he waved to his loyal supporters in the stadium that was full to the brim after his convoy made its way through the 60,000 capacity stadia.
