Karen member of county assembly (MCA) David Mberia was on Thursday charged and fined 700,000 Kenya shillings after he was found guilty of receiving a bribe to the tune of 1.7 million shillings.
Through a ruling issued at a Nairobi court, Mr. David Mberia was found guilty of demanding 1.7 million from one Samuel Maina Kiragu in a bid to resolve a land dispute.
Samuel Maina Kiragu is one of the directors at the Kiragu Waichahi Private School which reportedly had some land issues.
The Karen MCA was accused alongside the Mathare North Ward Jared Okode and Woodley member of county assembly Abraham Mwangi but the two were acquitted by Senior Principal Magistrate Thomas Nzioki. The judge ruled that the prosecution failed to provide concrete evidence against the other two MCAs.

Consequently, the magistrate barred Mr. Mberia from holding a public office and was to either serve a jail term of three years or pay a fine of 700,000 shillings.
The three members of the county assemblies who are in the Culture and Social Services Committee were arrested in April 2019 then charged on different dates between April 4th and April 8th 2019.
