Chaos as Fist Fight Breaks Out in Homa Bay Assembly

Published:

Chaos erupted at the Homa Bay county assembly on Tuesday, August 18 after two rivaling factions fought over the county speaker’s position.

The county assembly has endured longstanding wrangles with two factions fighting for the leadership role in the house.

In the fight that broke out, Geoffrey Anyango who was ousted back in July caused chaos as he claimed his removal from the position was unlawful.

Anyango also protests the ousting of Daniel Kaudo as the clerk, calling for his reinstatement.

Elizabeth Ayoo was ousted back in 2018 as the speaker with Evans Marieba replacing her as the acting speaker but he was de-whipped back in March.

Geoffrey Anyango then replaced Marieba as the acting speaker after which wrangles about the committee leadership broke out.

“It was reported that the Governor had a hand in the wrangles so it was a battle between those against the Governor and those with him.” said a source form the assembly.

Adding, “Anyango today went into the assembly to demand his seat and that led to the whole commotion in the house,” explained the source.

Another issue that caused the chaos was that the county was on the verge of electing a Deputy Speaker in accordance with the County Governments Amendment Bill 2017 sponsored by Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen.
