Family of the slain student in Uyoma accuses authorities of a cover-up

Published:

The family of slain student Clinton Omoke has accused the office of the DPP and DCI and insists they won’t give up until justice is served.

In a letter signed by Omoke’s father, Mr Nicholas Omoke,  the offices have both been accused of dilly-dallying whose end game is to let the murder culprits off the hook or give them less severe sentences.

In the letter, Mr Omoke firstly queries why it took a whole eleven months to arrest the eight suspects and yet prima facie evidence show that they are the ones who killed his son.

Additionally, Mr Omoke is lamenting that the culprits are accused of manslaughter and not murder, the latter being a severe and carries life in prison or even a death sentence.

Again when this matter was first presented in court the charges were altered immediately more than expected. It leaves without saying that some people somewhere are colluding to defeat justice by making sure that the accused persons go scotfree for the offense they committed,” read part of the letter.

“All we want is justice for my son, you know it’s painful to lose a child in such a manner. What I plead for from your good office is justice for myself and my son. Kindly ensure that the right charges are preferred against the accused persons. “

Omoke’s son was killed on the night of April 7th, 2019 at about 3 am. He was brutally murdered by a known, lethal gang that operates in  Uyoma East Location, Madiany sub-county, Siaya.

Records show that Clinton had just arrived from Mombasa on the material day, where he was a student at NITA College. He had been residing in Mombasa since January 2019.

The village gang, known as KAPEDO, came to the late home in the wee hours and brutally attacked his mother and killed the son instantly.

Among the arrested are Erick Ochieng alas  Owila Omungi,  Peter Oyango alas Onyango Nyawanda, Vincent Nyawanda alas Nelly Yona ,and Erick Oduor alas Omulo Otunge. Others are  David Odhiambo alas Jalago Lazaro, Elvis Otieno Obonyo, Odhiambo Lazaro and Dan Ajimba.

The gang stole Clinton’s phone, laptop and other valuables. Gang leader Felix John Ochieng’ who planned the killing was not arrested by the time the arrest was made. He is rumored to have police connection and got a hint of ongoing operation but many of his gang got arrested.
