Traders at Aram market in Rarieda Sub County continue to decry the pathetic state of the market due to the unconducive environment which is affecting their businesses.
The traders led say the county government has not lived to fulfill its promise of improving the infrastructure at the market, despite promises made by Governor Cornel Rasanga last year
One trader identified as Odhimbo Fred who trades in vegetable told rarrieda.com him and other traders are exposed to disease outbreaks and some have expressed fear that their buildings could collapse because the market is flooded with water.
“Our traders have nowhere to air their wares because the drainage system in the market is blocked and call to have the county government repair it has been met with empty promises,” he said.
He added that the only latrine available in the market is no longer in use forcing them to answer calls of nature in abandoned stalls or open places exposing both the traders and buyers to health risks.
According to Mr. Odhiambo the floodlights at the market are no-longer functional forcing the traders to close their businesses early hence affecting their profits.
“This floodlights stopped working in September 2018. We wonder if the floodlights project was just a campaign tool used by those who wanted to get into political offices,” added an irate Odhiambo.

Another trader Maxwell Otieno who hails from Uyoma put the blame squarely on the Siaya County Government which he claims continues to ignore their plight despite collecting taxes from the traders.
“These people have constantly given us false promises but have never made effort to keep them.” he said adding that the traders may soon be forced to stop paying taxes if they are not provided with crucial services such as clean water and toilets by the county government.
