16 new coronavirus cases, total number rises to 142 in Kenya

16 more patients have tested positive for the coronavirus in Kenya, raising the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 142.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, in a press briefing on Sunday, said the 16 new cases include 15 Kenyans and one Nigerian national.

“Out of this number, nine are from the quarantine facilities while seven are from contact tracing. The 16 people have already been moved into isolation in various health facilities and contact tracing is ongoing,” said the Health Ministry CAS.

Dr. Mwangangi further noted that out of the 16 new cases, 12 had been confirmed in Nairobi, three in Mombasa and one in Kilifi.

The new cases include nine males and seven females and are all aged between 22 to 66 years.

The Health Ministry further revealed that as of Sunday, 1,833 contacts had been monitored, with 1,384 of them being discharged.
